Dpty David Mitchell

Deputy David Mitchell

David will share how using new technologies has resulted in proven impact on standards: 9% Level 5 to 60% Level 5 writing in 12 months

David Mitchell is a multi-award-winning Headteacher and the former Deputy Headteacher of Heathfield Primary School in Bolton. Faced with the age old problem of getting his pupils to consider their audience, David built an audience of millions for his pupils to write for.

SATs results in writing shot from 9% Level 5 to 60% Level 5 in just one year with each child in 2010 making on average two years' progress, a feat that was subsequently matched by the 2011 Year 6 leavers and 2012 leavers. He is now on a mission to bring blogging to as many teachers and pupils as possible through QuadBlogging which supports teachers and class blogs by providing an instant relevant global audience. David and his pupils regularly present about the impact blogging has had on learning and recently featured on BBC1 Breakfast TV and BBC Radio 5 Live.

David's awards include the LWF Innovation Award Winner 2012, NAACE ICT Impact Award Winner 2011, Microsoft Innovative Teacher Award National Winner 2010 and Toshiba ICT Redesign Award Winner 2010.

You will leave inspired to try new tools out in your classroom that will motivate, engage, inspire and improve your pupils!

Testimonials from Teachers

"David has delivered impact in so many ways. In his own school he has had a possibly life changing affect on children. Those who hated writing now write for a hobby. You only have to look at Heathfield’s blog to see this in action and read the evidence… Is impact too dramatic a word in this case? No. There are hundreds if not thousands of children inspired to write through the tireless actions of this man."

– Tim Bleazard, ICT Co-ordinator, Bradford

"Being brought up in the catchment area of David’s school I know how difficult it is for students to engage in improving literacy. David’s work is inspirational and impacts directly on students life opportunities. I believe he is truly preparing them for a future that doesn’t exist yet. The enthusiasm from the students is clearly translated into the blogs. I believe this the way forward – using 21st Century tools for 21st Century learning. Phenomenal impact from a phenomenal teacher."

– Abdul Chohan, Director, ESSA Academy
