Caitlin Limmer

"Don't wait for your final 40 minutes"

Caitlin was given 40 minutes to live 17 years ago and it totally shaped her life. Her talk is about giving 3 life ingredients that I have learnt through teaching over 1000 people to run and building a large running community - the ingredients are finding your UGH, embracing all people and learning from every single person you meet and finally hard work, resilience and Honesty in who you are and what you do. The talk is humorous, emotional, inspiring and thought provoking.

In 2004, her husband was told Caitlin had just 40 minutes to live. This illness and an additional rare blood cancer MDS has made her grab every opportunity life has thrown my way ever since - and she is committed to enabling others to do the same.

Over the past 15 years, she has run 17 marathons - including one in a very heavy 7-foot beer bottle costume. She has swum ultra-marathons, cycled the Prudential 100 Ride London on a heavy tandem, raised thousands of pounds for, and become a Patron of, the blood cancer charity MDS Patient Support Group.

Caitlin has set up a huge and thriving community running club, been awarded a Richmond Council Community award for sport and charity, won the Prime Minister’s Point of Light Award and been praised by former PM David Cameron for “tireless dedication”. And that barely scratches the surface when it comes to her adventures and achievements.

Her key messahge is to pursue your passion with honesty and hard work . . .

Her talk touches on her personal journey of near-death experience and teaches people what exercise, particularly running, and community has taught her over the last 15 years. This talk is about so much more than running. It is a talk that makes you want to go out and grab every moment of your life, before your final 40 minutes are given to you.

Her drive to improve lives through exercise and community spirit is a serious one. The races she has directed - Cabbage Patch 10 and Turk’s Head 10K - and The BeaRCat Running Club she founded, go way beyond physical fitness. Through these groups, along with her 1 Mile a Day for 2020 challenge and On The Run - Live, during the Pandemic, she has continuously sought to help those affected by mental illness find confidence and challenged others to be more open-minded and cultivate new friendships - all ages, abilities and disabilities. Her community, in turn, inspires me and supports me in raising awareness and money for charities that are close to my heart.

Testimonials from Teachers

"We had the great pleasure of having Caitlin address a number of Deloitte staff as part of drive to improve wellness in the Firm. Caitlin talked to us about how she came to running and what a positive force it had become in her life. Her presentation was brilliant. She was hugely engaging and inspiring and exuded motivation! Her personal anecdotes really struck a mark and her passion for bringing positivity into people’s lives was infectious. I cannot recommend a session with Caitlin enough."

– Kerry Appleton-Norman , Partner, Deloitte

"She was absolutely amazing! From beginning to end, the whole team were enraptured with her presentation, and her positivity and storytelling skills shone through. Caitlin shared her own personal story which included charity fundraising and the success of having created a running community of 500 members, both huge achievements. Her talk was hugely engaging and had elements of fun, seriousness and was also extremely thought provoking. Caitlin is one of the most genuine and inspirational people I have ever had the pleasure to meet!”

– Annie Bartlett, Key Leader, Lululemon

"I find it difficult not to veer into the superlative when I think of Caitlin Limmer and what she has achieved with the Bearcat Running Club. I am still trying to work out how I managed to be swept up in the wake of energy and passion that she leaves, but 'swept up' I have been.

We are faced with a multiplicity of choices, long to-do lists, and competing interests at work and at home. But some people possess a rare quality that requires you to follow them. This is because of who she is, and what she stands for.
Yes, we are all unique, but only a few of us are extraordinary. And she is extraordinary."

– Jonathan Swaine, Former Managing Director of Fullers
