Promoting Positive Parenting to Drive Lasting Change in Our Schools and Communities

When parents find themselves overwhelmed by their children’s challenging behaviour and don’t know where to turn, the emotional toll can be severe. The resulting frustration and helplessness can unravel family life, sometimes leading to long-term consequences not only for the child, but also for the broader community. As a parent herself, Meave Darroux deeply understands the exasperation, heartbreak, and ripple effects such struggles can bring.

Motivated by a passion to empower parents and strengthen family relationships, Meave founded the charity Brilliant Parents, which she led from 2011 to 2024. Through this platform, she has supported countless families by delivering the globally recognised, evidence-based Triple P – Positive Parenting Programme – via seminars, discussion groups, and structured courses.

As an accredited Triple P practitioner for fifteen years, Meave has been widely acknowledged as a thought leader in parental development. Over the years, she has worked extensively across a number of London boroughs, including Barking and Dagenham, Brent, Harrow, Hillingdon, and Westminster. Her expertise has also been called upon by major public sector institutions, including North-East London NHS Foundation Trust’s Child and Adolescent Mental Health Service (CAMHS), as well as HMP Holloway and Downview prisons.

Informed by her own personal journey, Meave believes the role of Brilliant Parents is not to dictate, but to gently guide. By helping parents reflect on their own values, experiences, and behaviours, she empowers them to arrive at insights they may never have considered. Many discover that in order to see meaningful change in their children, they must first examine and evolve their own approaches. This self-awareness often becomes the first and most vital step toward healing and growth.

A vital aspect of Meave’s current advocacy focuses on the often-overlooked risks of social media. She firmly believes that unless parents fully grasp the unfiltered content their children are exposed to, they cannot effectively safeguard them. From exposure to harmful content to online bullying and unrealistic portrayals of life, social media can distort a child’s sense of self and safety. Meave emphasises that honest conversations, active monitoring, and digital literacy are not optional—they are essential tools for any parent trying to raise emotionally healthy, secure, and informed children in today’s digital age.

Key themes in Meave’s work include:

  • What is a Positive Parent?
  • How to Raise a Confident Child
  • How to Raise a Resilient Child
  • What Makes a Responsible Teenager?
  • Are Children the Cause or the Reflection of the Problem?
  • Positive Steps to a Healthy Self-Esteem
