When parents exhaust their own skills in dealing with challenging behaviour from their children, without knowing who to turn to, their outlook can be traumatic. It is not uncommon for their lives to unravel. This could lead to a breakdown of the family structure with longer term challenges for the child and the community. As a parent, Meave is only too aware of the exasperation, pain and widespread collateral damage that, such an encounter with your own child can cause.
As a direct result of being passionate in finding ways to get the best out of parents in dealing with their challenging children Meave established ‘Brilliant Parents’ which was launched in 2011 and today supports families by delivering the world-renowed, evidence-based Triple P (Positive Parenting Programme), through seminars, discussion groups and courses.
As a trained specialist in the ‘Triple P Programme’ with qualifications in Counselling and the relevant Safeguarding measures, as the CEO of ‘Brilliant Parents’, Meave is considered a thought-leader in the parent relations/parental development space. She has delivered services in diverse London boroughs such as Brent and Camden councils in addition to Harrow and Westminster councils. Other large public sector establishments delivered to include, North East London NHS Foundation’s Child and Adolescent Mental Health Service as well as HMP Holloway and HMP Downview prisons.
Through her personal challenges, Meave sees the role of Brilliant Parents as a faciliator to help parents gently reflect on themselves, their beliefs and experiences and reach their own conclusions. Once taken through this gentle process, parents recognise the need to firstly change their own behaviour before expecting a change in their children’s behaviour. A reflection they might not have contemplated before.
