James Shone

"Inspiring Confidence in Every Individual"

Many young people leave school with a developed sense of “I can’t” and “I am no good”. James Shone delivers a series of inspirational presentations to help redress this issue and these can be tailored to suit any sized group of either pupils, parents or teachers. His original, passionate, personal and light-hearted approach ensure that his presentations receive high praise wherever he goes by both young people and adults.

Following a 16 year teaching career, James was diagnosed with a brain tumour which left him with very little sight. However, James is a man who embodies a positive attitude to life and a determination to turn setbacks into springboards. As a teacher, this was at the heart of his pastoral message but it is now fundamentally important that he lives this message out everyday himself as well as sharing it with a wider audience.

James set up his charity, 'I Can & I Am' in 2014 which aims to deliver his messages of building self confidence to as wide an audience as possible and he now visits hundreds of schools every year in both the UK and abroad. His relevant and challenging talks take a look at life in education today and advise on how to best navigate the challenges that might be faced. He seeks to encourage parents and staff to recognise that education is about the whole individual and not just academic performance. Ultimately we want adults to work hard to uncover young people's real strengths.

James can speak to a wide range of groups of pupils, staff and parents and is regularly booked for insets and speech days / prize givings.
