Will Perry

British Paralympic Swimmer and TEDx Speaker

Will Perry is an acclaimed British Paralympian. He made his international debut at the 2021 European Para swimming championships in Maderia. Very soon afterwards he qualified for the Tokyo 2020 (2021) Paralympic Games. He achieved a top 20 finish in all events and a final alongside his team in the 20pt Relay. Will has also competed in the Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth Games and World Para swimming championships in Maderia.

Alongside his swimming achievements Will is a public speaker. He completed a TEDx talk in March 2022 with the title "Challenges of a Paralympian". This talk can be viewed on the main TED youtube channel and has over 37 thousand views. Will speaks frequently in schools, buisnesses, charity events and gatherings.

He has been trained proffesionally by the acclaimed public speaker Kimberly Davis on a 6 month programme. He has been trained to speak without notes and to follow a bespoke powerpoint. His main topics are the lifestyle of the modern Paralympian, a life with an induvidual with dwarfism, how to cope with failure, an elite lifestyle and how he lives a life where he is different to the 'norm' in society.

Will is in frequent contact with members of Parliment working on making a real difference in society and hopefully creating a more normal enviroment for people with dwarfism where society is fully engaged with the concept of dwarfism. This includes education to younger students which Will is hoping to achieve with speaking in schools.

Testimonials from Teachers

"Ex-Aldro pupil Will Perry has visited his former school on a number of occasions, to talk to the pupils, Staff and parents about his career and the challenges of Dwarfism. This has often involved speaking to our Year 8 Leavers – an audience of around 40 pupils in a classroom or lecture room – and just last Summer we were delighted to have Will as our guest speaker on Speech Day, when he spoke confidently in front of an audience of around 500. Will mixes entertaining tales of his experiences at school and beyond with inspirational stories of his swimming career, and his journey to becoming a Paralympic athlete. He can describe how hard it has been finding the time to train, and the challenges he has had to overcome to gain selection for the Team GB squad – and then he will give sound advice about courage, perseverance and resilience. Will has the knack of striking a chord with both children and adults – which is not an easy task – and is articulate, charismatic and captivating. We look forward to his return this Summer, and to following his progress as he works towards selection for Paris 2024."

– Chris Rose, Deputy Head, Aldro school

"Will presented to the school and was the perfect choice of speaker on the topic of “Celebrating Differences”. Will was an amazing speaker, presenting an impressive keynote, sharing both his para-Olympic achievements, and views on the 3 O’s Opportunity, Objective, Outcome which was very well received by a wide audience. Every member was super engaged for the entire session and Will’s own story is nothing short of inspirational. Thank you for sharing your story Will along with your lessons and guidance on how to succeed in challenging times. Many students took messages away and will remember the challenges you set them."

– Jacqui Skevington, Assistant Head (student wellbeing and pastoral care), Bloxham School

"First and foremost, Will is a super chap, sociable, respectful and easy to chat to. He spoke and presented our prizes at Hatherop Castle School's Speech Day giving two talks one to the younger children (Rec- Y2) and the second to the older children (Y3 -Y8). Both talks were pitched perfectly to the age group and were interesting, informative and entertaining. He showed real passion in his subject matter and spoke eloquently (without notes). Will's experience in the world of Paralympian sport (swimming) and dealing with being different in the modern world and not giving up when faced with challenges or obstacles provides a great message for both children and adults and one that Will presents with passion, knowledge and articulately. I highly recommend him for school talks and other occasions."
