Rose Dyson

Rose Dyson

High school start-up entrepreneur, beauty brand owner and UK National Young Trader of the Year, all by the age of 18!

21-year-old Rose Dyson is an award-winning young entrepreneur from Barnsley, South Yorkshire and the founder of super-sustainable and super-fun beauty brand Pura Cosmetics, primarily targeted at Gen Zers like herself.

At the age of 15 with just £25 investment, she conceptualised her skincare range based on her love of quality, ethical beauty products and her frustration when her limited pocket money could never stretch to their often extortionate prices. She decided to bring Pura Cosmetics to life by taking part in her secondary school’s enterprise challenge whilst in Year 10, which she went on to win.

After sixth form education, Rose went full-time with her company and the rest is history! Rose now retails her lip and hand care range on her own e-commerce website puracosmetics.co.uk, on Amazon and in nationwide retailers and beauty subscription boxes.

Rose has been recognised by business typhoons such as Theo Paphitis and Jacqueline Gold CBE winning their small business awards at the age of just 17. That same year, she was scouted for Dragon’s Den – only to be found too young to appear on the show! She was also named the UK’s Most Promising Teenage CEO in 2018, taking the top spot on the UK’s 20 Under 20 list and winning mentorship and a £10,000 no-strings-attached angel investment from tech powerhouse Taavet Hinrikus, the co-founder of Europe’s most valuable fintech TransferWise and the first ever employee of Skype. Aged 19, Rose also won ‘The F Factor’ – a nation-wide young enterprise competition chaired by Brent Hoberman, the co-founder of LastMinute.com and Made.com.

Rose is the youngest ever interviewee on the BBC Business programme and has been featured in the Telegraph, the Times, on CNBC, Sky News and many more.

Rose’s story inspires youngsters and shows them what they can achieve at a young age! Despite not being taken seriously in the business world at first due to being a teenager, this never stopped Rose’s drive and ambition. During her talks, Rose encourages her listeners to consider the fact that they have the potential to kick start their own careers before they leave education.

Testimonials from Teachers

"She was just brilliant - the pupils (and staff) found her speeches very inspiring."

– Helen Broadley, Holmfirth High School

"In the last year I have used Rose on a number of occasions to deliver inspirational talks to students. The most recent example of this was at a Celebration Event for an enterprise competition I run in the Borough where young people aged 10 to 16 have the opportunity to run their own business for an academic year. The audience for this event included young people, parents, business leaders, councillors and local authority service directors. Rose delivered an exceptionally professional speech that was inspiring to all, but young people in particular could relate to her. The feedback I have had since the event has been amazing and Rose is certainly in demand for her ability as a public speaker."

– Richard Shaw, IKIC Employability Champion, Barnsley Metropolitan Borough Council

"Rose has spoken at two annual events in College celebrating International Women’s Day. The speakers chosen on each occasion were women who have inspirational careers and achievements in the business world. As a current student Rose provided a shining example of how drive and ambition can lead to success at an early age. Her confident and clear presentation was an inspiration to the audience of fellow A Level students, teaching and support staff. The talk elicited many questions which she answered with impressive maturity, demonstrating the ability to reflect on her successes and learn from her experiences. Rose has been a great asset to college life and I wholeheartedly recommend her as a School Speaker."

– Vicky Rhodes, Librarian, Equality and Diversity Coordinator and Personal Tutor, Greenhead College

"Rose came and presented her business story and took part in a Q&A session to 250 primary school children at our Primary School Enterprise Challenge Finals Day/Awards last December. The children listened eagerly to her story and were bursting to ask her questions during the Q&A. She is so confident when it comes to working and engaging with younger people. Rose not only inspired the children, she was also happy to get hands on and support them in the classroom with her own experience, advice and knowledge about developing their ideas. I would 100% recommend Rose as an inspirational speaker to any school or organisation."

– Paul Robson, Enrichment Development Manager, Primary School Enterprise Challenge
