Felicity Robinson

Growth, confidence, and light-bulb moments – outdoors!

Children and teachers grow in confidence and learn new skills using the outdoor learning environment across the whole curriculum. Felicity's passion and motivation is to see this happen.

Felicity has a unique combination of experience that is highly valued by schools. She motivates teachers with inspirational ideas and examples to take the everyday curriculum outside, to boost the mental health and wellbeing of children and adults alike. Her engagement workshops with children are practical and fun, bringing learning to life, raising self-esteem and opening their eyes to potential future careers too.

As a speaker, her talks to teachers, school communities and school business managers discuss the ‘hidden’ effect that the outdoor learning environment has on behavior, wellbeing and learning. She showcases the best ideas to apply in their own school. CPD sessions are bespoke to the needs of the individual school, and may include ‘curriculum mapping’ of the grounds to explore its potential as a learning resource. ‘Fun, on-task and outdoors’ are the guiding principles.

Felicity’s expertise lies in helping schools to make the most of their outdoor learning and play environment. With 30 years experience of working with hundreds of schools, there are very few problems she has not come across and solved, from design issues to playground behaviour and maximising outdoor learning. Remember, not everything needs a huge budget! Her message is to make the best of what you have got, with expert guidance to see the potential of your grounds.

Professionally, Felicity is a landscape architect, teacher, speaker, experienced school governor (7 years), author of regular trade and education press articles, contributor to several books, and author of ‘Naturally Inclusive’.

Testimonials from Teachers

"Felicity’s extensive experience makes her a very credible speaker and audiences know that she understands how schools work and how the school grounds can stimulate and support learning as she draws upon her own examples of working with schools. She uses her experience to inspire teachers and pupils alike, often running very practical activities with participants who range in age from primary and secondary pupils to the adults who work with them, including school staff and parents. She has a thorough understanding of the curriculum and how outdoor learning helps to deliver this in schools in creative, hands-on ways such as through innovative arts and science lessons."

– Mary Jackson, Projects Manager, Learning through Landscapes

“….with regard to how I would describe your role to another Headteacher – the thing I would want to emphasise is that you combine all the creative skills and innovation of a landscape architect with a really deep and instinctive understanding of how children interact physically, intellectually, emotionally and spiritually with the natural world. The best teachers are able to see the world through a child’s eyes – and this was the reason I wanted you to lead our outdoor project.”

– Teresa Offer, Headteacher, Liss Infants School

"I have no hesitation in recommending Felicity as a speaker and trainer. She has been a freelancer for the Royal Horticultural Society for over 5 years regularly delivering talks and CPD. The evaluations are always excellent, with very positive comments about her knowledge and generosity in sharing her experience. Her children's workshops are exciting and practical, generating enthusiasm in the students and staff. Felicity has a unique combination of professional experience that is very valuable to schools. I would highly recommend her."

– Julia Bader, Training and Events Co-ordinator, Royal Horticultural Society

“Just a quick email to say again how wonderful your outstanding workshop was, with KS2. The content was thoughtful, researched and COMPLETELY on brief and the resulting report has been worth its weight in gold, a clear summary of the children's ideas with actionable thoughts for how to translate them into the development. I hope we get the opportunity to work together again as you are brilliant!”

– Kerry Lemon, Independent Artist commissioned for Bellway Homes at Charfield Primary School
