This is Steve's 9th year supporting secondary schools, 6th Forms & colleges with elements of their PSHE curriculum; namely lessons about alcohol & other drugs. Although based in the South West he delivers lessons across the country.
Combining a professional teaching qualification (CertEd) with 20 years licensing experience (14 years as a Licensee of bars & nightclubs), his background provides an unusual insight into the subject matter. This background & his continued working at specialist licensed events generates huge credibility & kudos among students & teachers alike.
Using credible, evidence-based information & research alongside his professional experiences, he aims to promote harm reduction through education. He neither supports or condones under-age drinking or those who use drugs.
Lessons are highly engaging, honest, relevant & continually updated, empowering pupils to make informed choices about their health & well-being without preaching. He is quick to establish a relaxed, but professional atmosphere where questions can be asked freely without judgement. As a sole-trader he is flexible in meeting the individual needs identified by a school.
His lesson portfolio also includes youth produced sexual imagery (sexting - KS3 & 4), healthy lifestyle choices (KS2 & 3) & cyber bullying (KS3 & 4).
In terms of CPD, he attends accredited conferences when possible, has enrolled in a ‘Club drugs & New Psychoactive Substance’ training course & recently undertook DanceSafe volunteer training. (DanceSafe – a USA peer-based, harm reduction organisation promoting health & safety within the electronic music community).
Beyond teaching, he is a Level 2 FA coach, coaching youths from KS1 to KS4. He has just completed his 4th year working at a boy’s summer camp in New Hampshire, USA where he is Head of Archery (a certified American Archery Association Level 1 instructor).
