Sarah Stones believes most Motivational Speaker's inspire rather than motivate - Sarah does both.
Sarah is a Motivation Specialist who helps young people and educators understand what truly drives them—and how to use that insight to boost learning, confidence, and wellbeing. With over 20 years’ experience, she brings clarity, warmth, and practical tools that make motivation simple and relatable.
As founder of Plain Sailing Motivation, Sarah speaks with honesty and humour about how the different things that motivate us shapes our energy and behaviour. Her talks explore how to recognise what gives us energy, how to re-energise when we’re running low, and how to work more effectively with others by understanding what motivates them.
Sarah’s story adds a powerful personal dimension to her work. A wheelchair user, living with cerebral palsy, she has learned first-hand the importance of resilience, perspective, and finding energy in the right places. She also draws on her experience of sailing across the Atlantic Ocean—a challenge that demanded courage, teamwork, and adaptability—to inspire audiences to see what’s possible when we understand and channel our motivators.
Her sessions are engaging and interactive, offering a mix of reflection, real-life stories, and practical strategies. Alongside supporting students with confidence and wellbeing, Sarah also helps them think about their career choices, showing how understanding motivation can guide decisions about subjects, pathways, and future opportunities. Teachers and staff also gain insight into their own motivation and creating the right conditions for motivation in the classroom.
At the heart of her message is a simple but life-changing idea: when we understand our own motivators—and respect the motivators of others—we don’t just perform better, we thrive.
