Mark Saxby

Helping students make better decisions about how they use social media, helping to tackle inappropriate behaviour, addiction and more.

Mark Saxby is a former award-winning BBC and ITV journalist who set up one of the first specialist social media agencies in the UK - and the Positive Social charity .

His sessions in schools tackle such issues as:

• What is a social media bully and are you behaving inappropriately towards others?

• Protecting yourself by understanding your privacy settings (online safety on social media).

• Not posting something today which will affect your tomorrows

• Dopamine and how the networks are trying to manipulate you

• Living a balanced life with or without social media

Schools have reported significant drops in social media issues since his visits.

He encourages schools to follow up the sessions through a free Social Ambassadors programme where students continue the conversation about social media.

Testimonials from Teachers

“I would hugely recommend Positive Social for supporting pupils with navigating the world of social media. Pupils engaged really well and were enthusiastic about discussing the positive benefits of social media and how to stay safe online. Mark is brilliant with the kids and parents alike and we are excited to continue working with him/Positive Social in the future.”

– Matthew Herzberg, PSHE Co-ordinator, West Park School

“We would highly recommend that as many schools as possible invite Positive Social in to help educate their students on how to be sensible and safe when accessing social media platforms. Staff and students were impressed with the practical tips on security settings and the digital footprint that is left when anything is posted or shared online, especially when applying for jobs later on in life! The content of the sessions was relevant and engaging and we would welcome Positive Social back into our school to work with all of our year groups. We have noticed a significant decrease in the misuse of social media platforms and when students make a mistake we have a great point of reference to refer back to."

– Robert Turner, Belper School

"Students know how totally appropriate and relevant the sessions are and they really look forward to them."

– Alec Lee, Assistant Headteacher, Derby High School.
