Launching his company, Shout Out UK, at age 22, Matteo has always had a drive to bring Political Literacy to schools across the UK and to create a platform to give the next generation a voice in politics.
Matteo completed his undergraduate degree in Politics & History at the UNIVERSITY OF BRUNEL in 2014 and his Graduate Diploma in Law in 2015.
Using journalism, film, events and education, Matteo managed to create a multi-award winning independent youth news platform that provides young people with the tools necessary to engage in politics and a platform to shout out and be heard. Since the launch in 2014, Shout Out UK has become Britain’s fastest growing independent youth news & media platform with a readership of almost 1 million per month. The aim is simple: To provide a global collective voice for the next generation that is armed with the tools necessary to incite positive change.
Matteo successfully managed to fund-raise enough capital to produce Shout Out
UK's first short documentary film ‘Anonymous: A Million Men’, recently acquired
by Shorts International for worldwide distribution.
The documentary includes interviews with Russell Brand, Conservative MP Chloe Smith and the secretive organisers of the Million Mask March itself. The film was later acquired by Shorts International for worldwide distribution.
Continuing to promote youth political journalism and engagement in politics, on the 28th April 2015, in collaboration with Channel 4 and ITN, Matteo via Shout Out UK launched Britain’s first ever Youth Leaders’ Debate. The event gathered 7 leaders of the seven largest British parties’ youth wings to debate on political issues. After 10min the #YouthLeaders was trending in the top six on twitter. Then on the 8th May 2015 he managed become an ESRC Knowledge Exchange Fellow, after his organisation successfully bid for a research grant, in cooperation with the Crick Centre, a research group based in the University of Sheffield.
Matteo was declared the winner of the Harrow Business Den 2016 and later that year launched a Political Literacy Course in schools, after successfully making his company an AQA registered centre and a registered learning provider with the Skills Funding Agency, a branch of the Department of Education. This meant that upon successful completion of each unit in the course, students would receive a UAS certificate from AQA. The course was piloted in a PRU in Croydon and has since expanded into various boroughs in London, Dartford, Cambridge and most recently Yorkshire.
An avid promoter of political discourse and literacy amongst young people, he was invited to become a fellow of the Royal Society for the encouragement of Arts, Manufactures and Commerce for his work in encouraging political education amongst young people.
"The students who attended have said that they found it very interesting and one of them (Daniel) has been inspired to apply to become a member of the UK Youth Parliament!"– Joanne Radiven, Teacher, Northgate Barnet School PRU
“I just wanted to say thank you to yourself for putting on the sessions yesterday. The students seemed engaged and is a very important subject that I hope to continue discussing with them.”– Tom Douch, Teacher, Haywood Academy
"Understanding Politics is key to understanding how society works. Shout Out UK’s Political Literacy Course, run by Matteo, supports students in developing their political awareness so they can take a more active role in society. After sitting in on several sessions with Shout Out UK and our students, I can honestly say it has been a fantastic opportunity for our students to develop their knowledge and awareness of current affairs as well as their ability to speak in public, debate and present a discussion coherently. This has also helped students to develop their self-esteem and confidence.”– Roisin Murray, Teacher, Bentley Wood High School
