Dan Miller is just 18 years old and currently studying for his A levels. He launched his business ‘Young Professionals UK’ when he was 16, which is built around improving careers advice in schools and bridging the gap between students, employment and businesses.
He has partnered up with some of the worlds leading brands such as PwC, Barclays and Rolls-Royce to deliver excellent careers advice and guidance into schools and colleges. After receiving little careers advice at school, Dan was advised to disregard the apprenticeship route, to forget any plans to start a business and to continue with his A levels. However, in spite of this, Dan decided to develop his ideas and plans, and managed to secure the support and sponsorship from Barclays, PwC, Turner & Townsend, Derby County FC, Rolls-Royce, 3AAA and a number of other big corporates.
He started the business with no money or backing and was privileged to secure Judy Naake as a mentor (the discoverer of the St Tropez tanning brand, who later on sold out for an estimated £70m). Dan is frequently asked to speak at schools and conferences; he aims to inspire young students to set up in business or to look for alternate pathways to work other than staying on for education. During his speeches, Dan tells the inspiring story of how he started his business and all the problems he encountered and overcame along the way. He discusses the successful elements of an ‘elevator pitch’ and how to network and relay confidence.
Now running a successful business, Dan enjoys speaking at venues around the UK including the NEC and Boots HQ in Nottingham. He has appeared on TV, radio, and has regularly featured in newspapers. A young role model for entrepreneurship, Dan believes that the government should do more to support students in 6th form who want to go into business. He is also currently lobbying Government on changing a legislation with regards to business banking systems.
