Using experiences in teaching and television to support social mobility in schools, multi academy trusts & teaching alliances with inspirational workshops across all key stages

Baasit is passionate about inspiring and motivating disadvantaged and pupil premium students in primary and secondary state schools, teaching school alliances and multi academy trusts. He is keen to share his experiences in television and educate students on their career choices.

Baasit’s main workshop "Let's Pitch It" combines teaching and television to provide pupil premium pupils with a fantastic competition. The competition allows disadvantaged pupils to use a whole host of transferable skills to research, plan, present and pitch an idea for a new television show concept. The students get the chance for their idea to be seen by people who have worked in the television industry for over thirty years. The winning idea for the “Let’s Pitch It” competition will get to visit London to learn more about the television industry.

Baasit has ten years teaching experience and has managed the ICT, business and computer science department at a school federation. Having mentored trainee teachers he has ensured he keeps up to date with the latest teaching strategies and pedagogy. Baasit has delivered CPD sessions focusing on the Pupil Premium problem to trainee teachers. Over the last two academic years, Baasit's workshops have had a specific focus on strategies that support disadvantaged students. Due to this, he has done a number of talks for trainee teachers regarding strategies and services that support bridging the attainment gap.

As well as ten years of teaching and mentoring trainee teachers, Baasit has a very unique and inspiring hook. Baasit is a regular participant on Channel Four’s “Gogglebox” the BAFTA and NTA award winning show. This has provided him with an excellent way to engage even the most challenging students. His contacts within the media industry has allowed me to give pupils a real insight in to the world of television.

Baasit has successfully been able to confidently articulate his transition from teacher, to entertainer to entrepreneur in a thought provoking way. These assemblies are designed to motivate and inspire students in variety of ways.

Testimonials from Teachers

"Baasit was our Key Note Speaker at our annual first year induction conference. We briefed Baasit on the project that the students undertake a month before the event, and he then came back to use with a draft of the things that he was going to say. This enabled us to be very clear about the content and delivery style. Baasit obviously had a very clear understanding of how we wanted things done, and was able to input to our plans extremely well.

He was very flexible when we had to change a few things at the last minute, and worked with us, supplying his presentation early enough for us to ensure the venue had all they needed in the correct format.

The delivery received excellent feedback. The students loved him as did the external audience, they are still talking about it 4 months later! I would recommend him as a speaker to anyone, he delivers excellent quality, with the appropriate tone for any audience."

– Bev Crighton, External Engagement, University of Derby

"Baasit came to Huntcliff School to work with a group of students on his 'Pitch it' project. This is a TV/media concept and involved students working in small teams to design, develop and 'pitch' their campaign. The Y9 students were truly inspired not only for the day but to continue the project and enter a competition. To keep a large group of children engaged and enthused for a full day in one room is testimony to the high quality programme, which I would wholly recommend to others. Thanks Baasit!"

– Philippa Hartley, Deputy Headteacher, Huntcliff School

"Baasit was kind enough to attend Junipers Celebrating Success event in December to present to our 16-18 year old audience about the value of hard work and dedication in a young person’s education and career. Although this was arranged at short notice, Baasit was very accommodating and made the arrangement run very smoothly with fantastic communication. On the day of the event the presentation given by Baasit was motivating, informative, engaging and fully surpassed our expectations. Baasit was the highlight of our event to acknowledge the success of our students throughout 2018. We would highly recommend and would not hesitate to invite him again in the future."
