Austen/Scott (formerly known as Brodanse) have collaborated with Grammy nominated act Groove Armada and worked with artists from Armin Van Buuren (former world number 1 DJ) to global touring stars, Len Faki and Joris Voorn. As owners of the the record label, Danse Club Records - which celebrated it’s 50th release at the start of 2018 - the duo have licensed music to Sony UK and had Essential New Tune with BBC Radio 1. Their music has taken them around the world DJ–ing.
In 2018 DJ/entrepreneur duo were chosen by Virgin StartUp for their very selective 'Crowdboost’ programme. They went on to raise over £330,000 of investment on Crowdcube in just 30 days to follow their passion with their startup, FutureDJs. With education at the heart of everything they do they love to share their ongoing journey with students in the hope of inspiring them to find and follow their own passions in life.
For the first time they are touring their live performances around schools featuring a combination key note, DJ–ing, live music production and student interaction.
"The school had a fascinating insight into the world of electronic music in the week before the school’s half term. Austen and Scott Smart are an international electronic live duo who have reframed the concept of DJing by using decks [as an instrument], drum machines and synthesisers. During an assembly for us they created live music with boys at the Under School and gave us a very thorough and impressive display of their skills, ingenuity and knowhow.
The school was able to follow Austen/Scott’s performance visually, via an overhead camera and there were opportunities for pupils to interact and contribute to making a unique sound during this first-class assembly event.
Austen and Scott Smart offer something unique and new for schools combining musical creativity with their passion and insight for electronic music. The brothers were articulate, resourceful and had an amazing sound system on which to perform; one that will impress any child and teacher with an interest in utilising new technologies for sound."– Mark O’Donnell, Master, Westminster Under School
"Bringing the working world to life for our students is really important, Austen/Scott delivered an aspirational and interactive workshop where they shared their own experiences of running their own business and everything this entails."– James Routs, Marketing and Business Development, Knutsford Multi Academy Trust
"Austen and Scott Smart paid a visit to our Sixth Form to talk to the whole of our year 12 cohort about their vocational experiences. The talk was inspiring and motivational. Not only were students honoured to hear the story of the birth of these two successful D.J's, enhanced by visuals and audio, they were also encouraged to think about their own pathway in life. Resilience and growth mind-set played a key role in Austen and Scott's success and this is something that can be applied to many stories of hard work and outstanding achievement. The students found this relative and inspiring... there was talk of 'what do I really want to be', and 'doing something I am passionate about'. This came at a poignant time for our year 12s. Almost a third of the way into a year of transition and challenge, at a point in the year where they can feel de-motivated and tired. Austen and Scott are passionate, confident speakers who clearly wish to encourage others to feel this about their own profession and life choices. Thank you for coming to see us!"– Mrs K Henshall, Teacher of Social Sciences, The Blue Coat School
